This musical piece from the
Bremond firm in Geneva (Switzerland) has three
interchangeable cylinders, noted with mandolin
effects for a keyboard of metal strips in three
parts. The central keyboard carries a zither: a
small shutter provided with tissue paper which
could be applied to the strips so as to change
the timbre and give the impression of being a
stringed instrument. As soon as a new opera was
performed the transcribes worked on putting the
musical arrangement into pinned cylinders and
transformed it into refined music suitable for
parlours.
