Designed by the American
company Aeolian, this piano plays by itself. What
is more it is equipped with a system known as
Duo-Art, which allows it to express the
sensitivity of the rendition by varying the
dynamics of the action. The expressions are
specially written on the edges of the roll of
paper.
In quieter sections the wind pump, operated by a
squirrel cage type motor, remains very quiet.
Great jazz composers: Fats Waller, Scott Joplin
and others preferred making recordings on this
instrument rather than on the engraved wax of the
newly-developing phonograph.
