Patented in 1886 by Pietschmann of
Berlin, this organette with 39
free-moving reeds in bronze upon
zinc, uses both booklets of perforated
cardboard and continuous strips,
thus proposing a vast repertoire of
dance music, extracts from operettas,
even national anthems. A whole
range of reed organs flood the French
market, creating competition for the
Thibouville firm. Cheap and popular,
they spread musical culture in
parlours and even at times on the
streets.
